Plus One

A few weeks ago, Hugo didn't have to work on Saturday. Nicole, Hugo and I had just finished eating and were sitting at the table. Hugo and Nicole were in the midst of playing who-can-stick-out-their-tongue-at-the-other-person-without-Jessica-seeing. Nicole abruptly brought the game to a halt when she asked, "Why don't you guys have any kids?"
I said, "Well, we will some day, we just don't have any yet."

Nicole, ever in need of as much personal information as possible, asked, "How many kids do you want to have?"

I answered, "Probably 2 or 3."
Nicole looked conufsed, "Why only 2 or 3? Why not more? I mean..."

BAMB! Hugo had knocked over his glass of pink, furity, sticky cebata. The gooey mess was oozing over his shirt and pants, the table, chair and floor.

"I don't know what happened," he said sheepishly.

A few Saturdays later, Hugo spent the morning sitting on the front step playing Gameboy. Withtin minutes of stepping outside,a swarm of children had surrounded him. They all sat there playing Gameboy until one little boy got bored and fetched his remote control car. Boys and their toys.

So Nicole, the answer to your question is: Because no matter how many children I give birth to, the number of "kids" I have will always be plus one!
