I really miss my camera phone. It was so convenient to whip it out and take pictures when the opportunity was right. Oh how I wish I had it here! There are so many prime opportunities! For example: there is a house in the neighborhood that is being remodeled. They had to remove some of the load-baring walls and needed something to support the rest of the hosue while they worked. What did they use to brace the concrete ceiling? Bamboo poles. Bamboo! Are they crazy?! No way would I be inside that house while it was being suported by bamboo!
Yesterday, Nicole stayed home with her brother. He didn't want to walk in the rain to bring her to my house, so he kept her home. I was so excited...it was like vacation! I went to the cyber cafe, ready to spend hours and hours on the internet. When I take Nicole with me, I just have time to get the highlights. But without Nicole, I would be uninterrupted! Well, the cyber cafe girls had a different plan. They were apparently jumping out of their skin from boredom (the rain was getting to them too). We spent hours and hours talking, looking at pictures and telling stories. At one point, the conversation changed to body types. The girls tried telling me I was the 'ideal body type.' I told them they were nuts. All of a sudden, Maya pulled out a measuring tape and came at me. She put my arms up in the air and measured my waist. I didn't know what to say! No one (not eve my friends) would dream of doing something so personal...especially without asking! Lucy (Maya's sister) was watching. She scolded Maya and told her she wasn't doing it right...my shrit was getting in the way. So, Lucy came over and pulled my shirt up so Maya could get a better measurement. And all of this was going on in the middle of the cyber cafe! I was flabbergasted!
I went to the doctor the other day (I had swollen glands and a sore throat...don't worry mom). To be on the safe side, the doctor did a blood test to make sure it wasn't anything else. We had to come back later in the day to get the results. When we went back to the doctor's office, the place was packed. Hugo and I took the last two seats in the waiting room. We told the receptionist what we were there for. She went back to find the doctor. He came out and told us that all the exam rooms were full. So, he would just read my results to us right there...in the waiting room...with all those other people!
Speaking of medicine and doctors...you don't need to see a doctor to get prescription drugs. If you want penicillin, you go to the pharmacy and get penicillin. Alarming. I guess the USDA doesn't have jurisdiction here.

I love that they measured you and pulled up your shirt in public! SOOOO wish I were there to see it!
ReplyDeleteJessica, why are your random stories so much more interesting than my random stories?
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine measuring you in public. Yikes. You must be adjusting because you didn't hurt her. Ha!
ReplyDeleteNice! Love that you can go to the cafe to get measured and......be on the computer!
