Boy Genius

Oh, how the mind of Rodrigo works! When I first met Rodrigo, he was almost three years old. My first impression of him was that at such a young age, he was able to match any adult when it came to sarcasm, humor and possibly inappropriate jokes. He was like an obnoxious 20 year old trapped in a little boy's body! In the almost three years that I have known him...little has changed! Let me tell you about two of my favorite stories.

Rodrigo's mom has been working full-time lately (she used to be a stay-home-mom). Rodrigo's aunt has been staying with him at the house while his mom works. Edis (Rodrigo's aunt) isn't the most attentive person in the world. Combine that with a very active little boy and messes happen. The other day, Margoth (Rodrigo's mom) came home to find a disaster in his bedroom. She got frustrated and told him to clean up the mess...she was tired of picking up his toys. Rodrigo looked at her very seriously and said, "Mom. When Hugo lived here, he always left his things lying around. His room was always a mess. And you just walked around after him, picking up his things. You never told him to clean up his stuff. Why? I think it is because you love him more. You never yelled at him about anything. Maybe you want to think about that, Mom."

What a rascal!

Another story...

Hugo, Rodrigo and Margoth were visiting with Edis and her husband Pedro. Rodrigo noticed Hugo watching Pedro as he walked around the living room, checking out his "new" shoes. Rodrigo commented, "You like Pedro's shoes? I see you looking at them."

"Yeah," Hugo said, "I used to have a pair just like them."

"Yes, you did have a pair just like them. But then you moved out and forgot to take them with you. They were here for 6 months and you never asked for them. So...I sold them to Pedro."

"You WHAT?!" Hugo asked.

"I sold them to Pedro. I asked for $10, but he would only pay $3."

"Those are a pair of $80 Nikes! You sold my shoes to Pedro for $3?!" Hugo exclaimed.

"Yes, but only because he wouldn't pay $10."
