The greatest discovery ever

You may think it was penicillin. Or air travel. Or sliced bread. But...you'd be wrong. The greatest discovery ever is the fact that the temperature dial on my little toaster oven is in celsius and not fahrenheit!

Why, you might ask. Because it means that my oven doesn't just go to 250 degrees F, it goes to 482!

Salvadorans love them some sweets. But their sweets are strange. They have something that resembles a sugar cookie, but doesn't have enough sugar and is way too dense. They have something that resembles an apple streusel, but without the apple. And there are plenty of donuts, but all of them are raised...not cake. And speaking of cakes...there are two options: an ice cream cake or a cake that is predominately fruit. What if I just want cake-cake?!

Well...now I can have my cake and eat it too! Because...my toaster oven dial is in celsius! Since making this discovery, I have made brownies, chocolate chip muffin-cake (because I don't have a muffin pan) and shortcakes. Mind you, my oven is about two feet wide and a foot deep. So, my results aren't exactly what the manufacturer intended. But...it works for me! I could only put three little shortcakes in the oven at a time, so I had to make three pans. And, my brownies were not quite cooked all the way through. But...beggars can't be choosers. And as Hugo says regularly, "Something is something!"

  1. When you guys finally get back to the USA I think Hugo should teach classes to over-indulged Americans. "Something is something" is a good motto to live by. Jessica, thanks for allowing us over-indulged Americans to see just a litle peak into another part of the world.

  5. Another good saying-you git what you git & don't throw a fit. Good for you doing all that baking.
