Oh baby!

Today, Baby turned 21 weeks old. Baby has been celebrating this milestone all week long...by dancing...nonstop. I fear what Baby will be like as a teenager. I spent the first three months of his/her existence heaving into a toilet bowl. Apparently, Baby is going to spend the next 5 months punching, kicking and head butting every inch of my abdomen. What will age 16 bring?!

The first day I felt Baby move, I was so excited. I called Hugo at work to tell him. When he got home that night, he wanted to feel Baby move too. Of course, that isn't something I can really control and patience isn't one of Hugo's strengths. Finally, I felt Baby gearing up...ready for an extra long dance set. I told Hugo to put his hand on my belly and wait. After a few seconds, Hugo put his face close to my belly and started talking to Baby, "Come on Baby! I want to feel you move!" Then, he put his ear down as if listening for an answer. At that exact moment, Baby gave an almighty kick and caught Hugo in the cheek. I think that will be the only time that Baby can kick his/her father in the face and he will laugh!

Baby dancing isn't the only excitement in my life these days. I have also had the pleasure of outgrowing almost all the pants I own. Excellent. I guess when you gain 7 pounds in a month, it's bound to happen! After dinner the other night, I asked Hugo to take a picture of my baby belly. This is what I got. I have a feeling Dad and Hugo would have gotten along very well!

Round two...
Extra tight pants aren't the only thing I have to deal with. I'm also finding that carrying extra weight makes me extra hot. The other day, Hugo and I were sitting on the couch and I was severely overheating. I jumped up and opened the windows and door, trying to stir up a breeze. After awhile, I realized that wasn't going to do the trick. I plugged in the fan and positioned it about a foot from my face. I looked at Hugo and said, "I didn't think through this whole pregnancy thing very well. I'm going to be big-fat pregnant during the hottest time of the year. What am I going to do then?!"

"You can fill the sink with water and sit there all day long."

"Sit in a sink full of water? All day?"

"Yeah, you'll be like a hypo...hypo...hypo-bottom-tus."

"Do you mean a hippopotamus?"

"Yes! A hippopotamus!"

"You're lucky I'm not an emotional pregnant woman. Some people might not like to be compared to a hippopotamus."

"I didn't mean to say that you will be big, fat, and ugly--"

"Great."

"I think I'll stop talking now."

MmmmHmmmm.

  1. FUNNY!! You look G-R-E-A-T--but have to admit being pregnant during the really hot weather might make you a little bit uncomfortable. Take if from someone who had a +11 lb baby the 2nd week of September. That summer was REALLY hot-at least for me.

  2. I am so glad you are feeling better,Jessica. Heidi is getting bigger too but she's not hot. Way too cold & snowy here. They are having another boy. Keep posting.
