Baby Anderson has finally arrived! He was born on May 20th at 6:00pm by c-section. He weighed 6.5 pounds and was 18 inches long.
(PS - I would like to insert pictures here, but it won't let me. I'll try another post of pictures...)
We spent three days in the hospital and came on May 23rd (our 3 year wedding anniversary!). It has been an adventure having a new addition to our little family! Simple things like running to the grocery store or the cyber cafe are no longer simple! And I am now an expert at eating dinner one handed.
The first few nights at home were a bit rough...there was crying, exploding diapers, and marathon feeding sessions. But gradually, we eased into a routine...feedings at 10pm, 1am, 4am and 7am. Not too shabby!
However, life has taken a turn for the dramatic. On Sunday night, Anderson started vomiting. At first, we thought it was normal spit-up. But it continued throughout Monday morning and was accompanied by dehydration (his soft spot was sunken). We took him to the doctor who immediately referred him to the children's hospital. He was admitted Monday evening.
Because of the risk of infection, we are only able to visit Anderson from 10:00am to noon each day. It has been soooooo difficult to leave our baby in the hospital. Added to the feeling of abandonment, we have been frustrated because we feel the hospital hasn't been able to find a cause for the sickness fast enough. Today (day 4 in the hospital), we were ready to pull him out and take him to a different hospital. We decided to give it one more day...if the doctors didn't have a diagnosis by tomorrow we would move. However, the doctor just called and said they have found the problem. Anderson has a narrow pylorus, the opening from the stomach to the small intestines. To fix the problem, he needs to have surgery. We are going to meet with the surgeon tomorrow and will hopefully have more information.
