I found these things amusing...

...and you might too!

Quick Spanish lesson. In Spanish, there is no apostrophe s (for contractions or possession). So, if you wanted to say Hugo's car...you would say...car of Hugo (carro de Hugo). Keep that in mind as I say...I went to a store yesterday that, in Spanish, would have been called Laptops de Valdez (Laptops of Valdez). But...they wanted to English it up so they called it Laptop's Valdez. Ooops!

The first time I went to a "restaurant" on the street, I ate my papusas (traditional Salvadoran food) with a fork. Apparently, that is like tattooing "ugly American" on my forehead. Locals eat them with their hands. I find this form of casual dining ironic because they serve cans of soda with a napkin and straw. What?!

Ug. I hate to show you this picture because our house looks a lot worse than it really is. The owner/previous tenant of this house did some construction. However, they moved out before actually finishing the project (aka...the walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, exposed re-bar, etc.). Hugo and I have talked about finishing it, but that seems like a lot of time and effort for a house that isn't ours. Anyway...last night, the light bulb burned out in the bathroom. The ceiling in that part of the house is probably ten feet high and we don't own a ladder. Solution? This...

We live in a housing development called Alta Vista. I've always known it is a huge place. However, I never realized just how big. On the news the other day, they did a story on Alta Vista. In our housing development, there are 160,000 homes which spans 3 towns. Crazy, huh?! So many houses here double as the family business too. People utilize their garages in very unique ways. They use them as a...barber shop, gym, grocery store, bakery, clothing store, dentist office, movie store, hardware store, ice cream parlor, internet cafe, restaurant, and so much more. If I had to guess...at least a third of all houses here are used as a business too. Probably another third of the houses are churches (either in the garage area or utilizing the entire building). Another popular use for buildings is private schools. While driving through the neighborhood on the short jaunt from the highway to our house, we pass five private schools. Considering how big this development is, there must be tons and tons of other private schools here. Goodness!
