Our house is in a little community. All the houses are connected. It's kind of the equivalent of townhouses in America. All the houses are connected and they are all built the exact same way. All the houses have roofs made out of corrugated concrete (that is what I call it. I'm not sure if that is the correct terminology. It looks like corrugated tin except it is concrete). Our house has an addition on the back. Almost all of the addition is covered in this corrugated concrete except one stripe. That one stripe is corrugated plastic and acts as a sky light. It is kind of nice because it illuminates the entire addition...I don't have to turn on the light during the day.
Anyway...the other day at breakfast, Hugo and I heard a lot of scratching and scraping on the roof. We looked up at the sky light and saw a chicken on our roof. I have no idea how she got up there but it was highly amusing to watch her. She had stumbled onto the plastic and found it was much slipperier than the adjacent concrete. The chicken had also found a nut of some kind. She picked up this nut in her beak and then threw it down on the plastic trying to crack it open. She kept picking it up and throwing it back down. In between throws, she would slide around on the plastic. All the time, her little feet click, click, clicking on the plastic...click, click, sliiiiiiiiide, thump. Click, click, sliiiiiiiiide, thump. It was soooooo funny to watch. Even with all the sliding around, she wouldn't give up on the nut. Hugo and I had a good laugh.
The next day, however, it wasn't so funny. The chicken had found her way onto the roof again, although much earlier than the day before (5:00am to be exact). This time, she smartly avoided the plastic. The chicken somehow managed to find the exact spot on the roof that was directly above our bed. Click, click, thump. Click, click thump. Surprisingly, without the sliding around she wasn't able to crack the nut any faster that she did on the plastic. Note to self...next time I'm at the store, check for chicken repellant. I'm sure it's sold right beside the gecko repellant.

If you'd like, I could check out Fleet Farm. They have all sorts of repellent there-(of course I've purchased plenty of "M" repellent over the years.)
ReplyDeleteBut, why don't you just 'eat' the chicken? That would take care of all that clicking and be a nice change from all those scrambled eggs and beans.
Ok -that makes me laugh. Thanks for the chuckles
ReplyDeleteSorry I am just now catching up on all your blogs! Very entertaining!!!
